Bridging the Gap: Recruitment and Retention in a Multigenerational Workforce

This engaging and humourous session will examine and contrast the work-related values of Canadian
demographic cohorts: the Baby Boom, Bust and Echo. Focusing primarily on recruitment and retention
strategies, this presentation will map the characteristics of different demographic cohorts and explore techniques effective in connecting with a multigenerational workforce. Discussion will include the challenges of collaborating in the work place to optimize the unique gifts and contributions of each group and will extend to
include performance evaluation strategies and orientation programming.

BIO

Kristen Cumming is a career development practitioner with 15 yearsexperience and a passion for demographics. Her contributions to the career development community include participation in the Alberta Symposia on Public Policy and Career Development, serving as Co-Chair of the Common Language working group under the auspices of Working Connections, Chair of Communications for the Career Development Association of Alberta, and as an Advisory Board Member for Alberta Learning Information Service. She has contributed to several educational and career development resources and works as a sessional Instructor for Red Deer College, where she has developed and instructs Introduction to Industry Sectors, a course focused on career development, labour market trends and employability. She operates Career InSight, a successful consulting practice through which she works
as a speaker, contractor and consultant on projects including personal and organizational career development, labour market trends, recruitment and retention, and worker/learner engagement.
